Feminism in Headlines

Not only is feminism existent in films books even a newspaper article can reveal some feminist views. The Guardian had recently published an article entitled: 'Amanda Knox acquitted because of 'stunning flaws' in investigation'.

The article refers to a woman and her former boyfriend who were imprisoned for 4 years. The body of a British University student named Meredith Kercher was found in the hotel room they were staying at in Italy. When I saw the title I could tell that this showed some aspects of feminism because it isn't until the reader reads the subheading that they realise that her boyfriend at the time was also imprisoned. Amanda Knox became the center of attention in Italy. The fact that the title says 'stunning flaws' emphasises how women are seen as flawed creatures who are constantly punished the ones who are punished in literature. Where as men seem to have it easier within society as the whole article talks about Amanda an her ex is no where to be seen. Although she was innocent of the crime this headline emphasises how ife she did commit the crime along with her boyfriend she would have a much harsher punishement. In the sense that wherever she goes now she has this label or she says in her words, she is a 'marked person' and is 'branded' by others.
